Getting Help

Appointments, first contact and what happens after you ask A4A for assistance.

How can I book an appointment?

Call +232 79 011 356 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm GMT, Monday to Friday; submit a request through the website at any time; or visit the office during working hours.

What happens after I contact A4A?

A4A will contact you through an appropriate medium for an initial strategy session to discuss your individual situation and then advise you on the appropriate service or next line of action.

What services does Attorneys 4 All provide?

A4A provides legal representation in civil and criminal matters, legal advice, legal education and rights-awareness activities, alternative dispute resolution such as mediation and negotiation, support for vulnerable groups, community legal clinics and outreach, advocacy, research and training.

Who can access A4A's services?

A4A's services are intended for people who cannot afford a private lawyer, particularly women and children, persons with disabilities, low-income individuals, victims of rights abuses and people in rural or deprived communities. Assistance remains subject to an eligibility assessment and available resources.

Do I have to pay for A4A's legal services?

No. A4A's legal services are free for people who qualify on the basis of financial need, vulnerability and the organisation's other eligibility considerations.

How do I know if I qualify for legal help?

A4A will ask for basic information about your circumstances and legal issue so that staff can assess eligibility. Financial need and vulnerability are important factors, but the nature of the matter, available resources, geography, conflicts of interest and other applicable considerations may also affect whether A4A can assist.

What kinds of cases does A4A help with?

A4A's stated practice areas include criminal matters, civil matters, family issues such as domestic violence, child support and custody, land and property disputes, employment and labour problems, contract and consumer matters, and appropriate forms of alternative dispute resolution.

Will a lawyer represent me in court?

If your matter qualifies for representation and A4A accepts the case, a licensed lawyer may be assigned to represent you in court. Contacting A4A or submitting a website request does not by itself create a lawyer-client relationship.

What if I do not understand English well?

A4A states that its team includes people who speak Krio and local languages and will seek to communicate in a way that beneficiaries can understand.

How can I access A4A's services?

Visit the A4A office at 2nd Floor, 50 Adelaide Street, Freetown; call or WhatsApp +232 79 011 356; email info@attorneys4all.org; or use the legal-help request form on the A4A website.

How do I know when I need a lawyer?

Legal advice is particularly important when the consequences could include detention or imprisonment, significant financial or property loss, loss of child custody, a criminal charge, a lawsuit, serious family or domestic-violence issues, personal injury or another matter where your rights or obligations may be substantially affected.

Know Your Rights

General legal information and when to seek individual advice.

What should I do if I believe my rights have been infringed?

Preserve relevant documents, photographs, messages and other evidence; seek legal advice; and report the matter to the appropriate authority where necessary. The correct steps depend on the circumstances of the case.

What should I do if I am arrested?

Stay calm and do not resist. Ask to speak to a lawyer as soon as possible and avoid volunteering detailed statements before receiving legal advice. The correct legal steps depend on the circumstances, so obtain advice for your individual situation.

Legal Information

Important information about legal advice and lawyer-client relationships.

Does contacting A4A automatically create a lawyer-client relationship?

No. Reading information on the website, contacting A4A or submitting an initial request does not automatically create a lawyer-client relationship. Legal representation begins only after formal acceptance and confirmation by Attorneys 4 All.

What is Attorneys 4 All?

Is Attorneys 4 All operational as a legal-aid organisation?

Yes. A4A states that it is registered with the appropriate bodies in accordance with the laws of Sierra Leone and operates as a legal-aid and access-to-justice organisation.

How can I support or join A4A's work?

A4A welcomes support from volunteer legal professionals, interns and law students, donors, institutional partners and community stakeholders. Contact A4A for current opportunities and requirements.
